CrossBeat Little Cherry Popper...

Went over my usual haunt this morning. Weather's pretty cloudy and streaks of rain fell. Determined to break my rod virgin today on a mama Toman, hopefully. Tried a new lure, a spinner-bait with those flashy blades and bushes around the hook Heck, caught up with the hydrillas at the blade neck. Some more 'weedless lure' sia they told me. -_-"

Anyway could see those Tomans swimming around happily but no bites at all. Haiz... Singapore no fish sia. I keep thinking like that lately. Anyway went work after this morning workout casting all sorts of topwater lures. Most pleased is the propeller lure. Hopefully, gonna master its mechanics loh.

Nite fall after work, popped over the reservoir over my workplace and tried a new spot to play my game. Rather shallow at the spot so i casts my add-on rubber skirt jig around hopefully kena a bite or two. And YES, caught one TINY Nile Tilapia... LOL!!! Finally broke my rod virgin and also my tiniest ever hooked up. Damn overkill loh for my Crossbeat... T_T

Struggled for a few sec upon hookup. T_T

Threw Hook! Crossbeat Still Virgin! LOL!

Been trying out my new Daiwa Crossbeat rod for almost 1 week liao. Tested in the waters of Woodlands salt and fresh, down to LSR today. So far have been very satisfied with the action. My lures casts further and easier mainly due to my handling of the shortened butt. Light weight lures are finally seeing more distance.

Today action boils down to the rocks. Its evening time where i lingered and charmed by the calm waters of LSR. Stuck to my minnows and at a shaven spot near my first biggie Peacock Bass caught in January. Thought a lot about the actions of my lures since my new rod is designed for this and yes, got a strike up!

Biggie Peacock Bass strikes, my new rod felt okay, managed to steer in good. My old rod would feel like throbbing cos its more sensitive loh. PB jumped once still okay, pull it quickly down into the waters. However, upon landing it jumped again and poof, hook off! Think never set hook hard enuff loh! Twice 2 biggie had escaped from me... T_T

Haiz... So no catch report this week. Keep raining these few days lah so busy adding features to my blog and watch World Cup 2010!! Went Youtube and found some angmoh fly fishing clips in Singapore!
Great job dude! Still haven't get a bite on my DIY flies. LOL!

Goodbye Tornado, Hello Crossbeat!

Alrite Fishos, just some news to share with you all. Broke my beloved Team Daiwa Tornado Rod few days ago before birthday at the newly opened Woodlands Waterfront. Haiz... It broke just before dawn, some monstrous kimbaklor must have gotten my lure and went across the bridge hard and it broke after an overwhelming C bend load. :( Oh well, a sacrificial rod has to be laid down to appease teh fishing lord over here mah. Goodbye Tornado, U would not be forgotten!

Anyway, dearest wifey bought a replacement for me liao for my birthday. A Daiwa Crossbeat 6'6'' Light Action Rod! ^^ Very happy since it's longer, lighter and most important, matched the color of my Luvias reel. Shiok! Also spooled in new white 8lb SpiderWire for tighter luring action! Lagi Shiok!! Kekeke. Thanks Dear!!! *Muackz* Since everything is going lighter, I went and bought a new matching and lighter bag for my luring needs. Matching fishing combo set liao. SUPER DUPER HAPPY!!! ^^

Daiwa Crossbeat in Cool Silver & Black Color
Luvias & Crossbeat in matching colors. Sweet ^^

Enlightening From Teh Toman Shifu ^^

Been a zero fighter lately though and getting pretty demoralized. Lost several lures liao yet hit almost nothing and totally clueless what strategy to formulate in each waters. Haiz... Went Youtube watch Fishos having a ball of great time with their catches lagi SIAN 1/2. HAIZzz.. Sad... :( Disillusioned and completely in need of enlightening, i stumbled upon these splendid vids by one FISHINGBANHOCK. Kudos to this Fisho man. How he managed to strike down these majestic Toman time and time again is beyond me... Plus he is also a CNR Fisho!!! Cool!!! Hopefully, from his art can i learn and reap some rewards. Hahaha!!! Enjoy these vids and learn from the master!!! ^^

Fish!!! After A Month Long Absence!

These are trying times I guess. Really have not been into the mood in fishing after gaming up ALOT. Dunno if my amateurish fishing skills had degraded or not. LOL! Went over NSLK to pick up the slack today. Weather is not good at all, rained some time after wifey arrived. Had to take shelter else would be drenched for good. Tried out the usual hard plastics but damn fished up so much debris. The river current is too fast and not to mention how the heck so much weeds had grown over the past month! Also tried a small topwater plug i bought yesterday but quite weak in action though. Switch to soft plastics. No luck at all. Damn... After a while wifey call me up into the tunnel and guess what i saw. An injured EarthEater. Quickly scooped it up and check for damage.

Palm sized fish food. Don't last long cos kena whacked by other fish.

EarthEater was so weak that i caught it easily in the water. Released it soon after, hopefully can recover but i highly doubted it. Went over to the other side of the longkang and tried some burn and stop. Nothing. Wifey called again and i rushed over. She say got some fishy bubbles. Hmm... No harm trying the spot. And BAMM!!! :)

5-inch baby Peacock Bass caught. Very feisty. :)
Another Baby caught. Or was it me... Lao Baby!!! (^-^)

So ends another fruitful day at the river. Hopefully this would fire up my passion more for fishing again! LOL! YAY! Went over fishing shop and get supplied with more soft plastics cos they get sungkot so easily... Oh Well! Cya Fishos!!!

Flash Back... Beginning Fishing...

"Heya Fishos, you must be wondering when did i started to hook on fishing. To tell you the truth, my very first time fishing was years back. Me and my best friend Fuliang was wondering if we could catch big fishes as a hobby. We were really noob then, went to Beach Road and i think i bought a medium-heavy rod and he bought a super expensive light-medium rod. Close to 1k then, the Team Daiwa Tornado Rod!!! We spooled in mono lines and bought some lures and set out to catch at LPR at nite.

Of course with nobody to teach us, the result was horrible. Reel and rod dropped into the pond, fast retrieve without pause, etc. LOL! In the end, went to Bedok Jetty tried our luck. I managed to hook 2 Beltfish A.K.A Todaks that nite with spoon! But super tired throwing lures on the med-heavy rod leh. Good fun that day but fren quitted and gave me his super expensive rod to me and i stored it till one day last year.

Basically wanted a cheap and good way to cut down my weight. Gonna have my wedding photoshoot next year so don't wanna be all chubby. Pretty fat that time loh. LOL! Went LPR one day and tried a lure and must be very lucky cos Peacock Bass just went for it after my lure was cast into the waters. And then my old mono went beehoon. Finally took my solution to Team 7 Pro Tackle at Yishun to help out.

The two nice young Sam and Desmond really took time to explain to me all about lure fishing. Bought some beginner reel set and lures, spooled in some new mono and off i go Toman hunting. LOL! In the end i did landed one tiny Toman! And i decided to put this hobby in firm resolution.

So that's how the poison started and i loved every minute of it! Hopefully this new passion of mine won't stop so abruptly like last time. I'm gonna learn and hone my skill so next time, when my fren came around. I could teach him how to fish and hopefully, get him hooked!!! LOL!"

MY VERY FIRST PEACOCK BASS!!!
Stout fella! Hopefully we'll meet again when u're bigger!

Nite Double Kill @ New Spot

Dun understand why lately had trouble sleeping so i kept giving excuse to myself for getting myself up early for my morning fishing. Must be the hot season i guess, very sunny and dry resulting in a recurring cough. Anyway, manage to pull myself up today and went for my usual haunts to look for my beauties. And what a shock i had when i reached the place. The usual netting over the canal is open and tied to the banks. So as to facilitate the cleaning of the waters i guess. The waters felt more rapid than usual and the thought of my beloved Peacocks were washed away etched deeply in my mind.

But alas i got to get my priorities right this late morning. I need to try out my modified soft plastics jig for the Tomans today. Hopes are high this slightly overcast day. Some young Fishos were already testing the waters and i can't afford to wait. Casting the 1/4 Oz rig is pretty solid and i manage to hit the other banks and so distance is assured. Flourishing hydrillas were a problem so I'm testing my timing on the crank not to hit them and it turn out well. Soon i nearly got a hit on a Green-Headed Mama!!! She chased my lure to the bank but didn't attack it, instead and amusingly enough she went below my rig and turn her body downwards so that her mouth opened slightly from below. Hopes rocketed sky high and suddenly crashed to the ground as she shut her jaws tight, the rig crashed onto her and she dashed away in a flurry. Left stumped i bid this haunt goodbye. Maybe Next time... :(

Night time and with crashed hopes i decided to visit this fishing spot near my workplace in Woodlands. Amazingly, haven't given this spot some tests yet for over a year even though it's so near. Haha, and it turned out to be more productive than LSR Jetty. Met a couple of friendly Fishos this cool night. And they were on the prowl for Catfish. ^^ Got some pointers in and decided to use my DIY light jig for some testing.

My very FIRST, Jaguar Ciclid a.k.a Guapote Tigre. ^^

Boy, this Jaguar fight hard!!! Though its slightly bigger than my palm, it reminds me of the 1/2 Pounder Peacock caught in Feb! Some darting actions were imparted and since i worried that it might dive into the rocks i just crank in hard and pulled in out fast. No problem with my tackle! LOL

Hook set No. 2! Bait sized Nile Tilapia ^^

Luring close into my 2 hours session. Hit this bait sized Nile Tilapia. Not bad for tonite's expedition. Kekeke. Gonna love this spot!!! Will be my new testing ground for ultra light jigs and lures. Thanks to the Fishos for the company and congrats on them for catching 2 beautiful Catfish and i'm so glad they're CNR Fishos like me too!!! ^^

Late Nite @ Punggol Park

Been scouting Punggol Park for quite a while. Heard from the Fishos there can get Legendary Patins a.k.a Silver Catfish over 30Lb!!! Yeah, though i haven't really seen such biggies caught with my own eyes. Catch reports of such were available on the net and my hopes are high high this lovely nite. Brought 2 rods this time ard. One Medium-Heavy Action Mitchel Rod with float & bait combo. The other one is for some luring and light jigging on my DIY rigs.

Saw quite a few Fishos already set up their rods on the stone parapet. And their rods were quite long and heavy duty. ^^ Anyway my baits for the nite were bread and i squished them into a ball on my float rig. Hours quickly passed and still no hook set on my rig. Soon Fishos left. Even baiters with squid or prawn meat didn't caught anything. Seems like Punggol Park this nite is not productive. Well since my hooks were not getting any stuffs, my line did caught some other creatures. LOLOLOL

This tiny bat tangled on my line. So CUTE!!! Ahjoojoo baby ^^
Tried to escape after i freed. Noisy fella 'clak clak clak' all the way...
WTF! 50 cent Milkfish fry also kenna hook by my braided line!!! @#$%

And so those huge patins, siakaps, featherbacks and other biggies seems to be on vacation! Or already caught up. Haiz... Note to new lurers: sunken nets everywhere so any bottom banging lures will get hang up. I learnt the hard way. So my next lesson in fishing, time for some luring with ARTIFICIAL BAITS!!! ^^

What Tarot Card are You?

You are The Emperor

Stability, power, protection, realization; a great person.

The Emperor is the great authority figure of the Tarot, so it represents
fathers, father-figures and employers. There is a lot of aggression and violence
too.

The Emperor naturally follows the Empress. Like an infant, he is filled with enthuiasm, energy, aggression. He is direct, guileless and all too often irresistible. Unfortunately, like a baby he can also be a tyrant. Impatient, demanding, controlling. In the best of circumstances, he signifies the leader that everyone wants to follow, sitting on a throne that indicates the solid foundation of an Empire he created, loves and rules with intelligence and enthusiasm. But that throne can also be a trap, a responsibility that has the Emperor feeling restless, bored and discontent.

Successful Catch @ NSLK

Been trying to shake off the sleepy bug this morning but none the less, bit the bullet and went off in search of my beloved Peacock Bass. Reached the hotspot NSLK and quickly set up my rod & reel. Its late morning and the weather is still cloudy, the waters calm with little breeze. Saw a few young anglers totting the grounds but this spot is mine! And from the tell tale ripple with the bubbles, i suspect my favorite fish is there...

Armed with my newly gotten Daiwa Luvias and my trusty Team Daiwa Tornado Rod, I certain im gonna break my duck after a few series of recce fishing at this area. Initial casting with my newly modified spinner frog topwater lure proved rather foolish. Seeing how it doesn't really spin that much. :( But hopes are still high and i reached for my newly acquired jerkbait...

My first PEACOCK BASS for the Tiger Year!!!4 Pounder caught! Nice size and colors too!

The take was typical Peacock style. Solid and strong hookup was locked in my mind following my previous session when i'm too eager to land one biggie and it escaped in midair when it shook off my lure. It doesn't feel too tough this time though. My Luvias is certain of that! :) The Peacock tried some mad darts and turns but i firmly lock on tight and reeled in firmly. And once it jumped out of the water i know ecactly what to do, quickly pull it down into the water! :) The ensuring fight took around 2 min to exhaust the bugger!

WTF! SO SERIOUS!? LOL!
Say 'Ahhhhhhhh.....' Poor bugger must be gasping for air! Finally a sweet kiss for the great date this morning!

And so my duck is broken at this NSLK. Fish is CNR after a video log is taken. Hope to see u soon! Anyway caught this beauty 30 mins into my 2 hour session. During the time, i walked part of the area and saw some young anglers using flies. And i noticed they caught some young fellas too! Great job fishos! And CNR too! YAY!!!!

My 2nd Year Wedding Anniversary Gift!!!

Just got a new toy from my lovely wife! A Daiwa LUVIAS 2000!!! I Love You Dear!!! Ultra light and super smooth cranking action! Yup Fishos... Feel free to envy me! :) Spooled with Berkley Whiplash 20LB Green Verte (My lucky color this year ^^) braided line. Surprisingly, its line diameter is only 0.06mm thick while a 10LB normal braid line is already 0.10mm thick. Wow!

Had to decide between the Caldaix Kix & this Luvias. Luvias WON!!! LOL

Daiwa Luvias
Lightness beyond your imagination, strength beyond comprehension, completely corrosion resistant, for the first time in the world in the sports and fishing industry, Daiwa introduce ground breaking technology that will change the future of the modern fishing reel – Zaion.

Zaion technology opens up a completely new world of the development for the modern spinning reel, a reel that is hyper light, strong and corrosion free, in 2007 a new reel is born that will set the standard for all to follow, the new all-rounder reel – Luvias.

“Zaion” is a brand new type of material, simply explained it is a high density carbon resin. To understand “Zaion” first we need to understand the other materials that are used in the production of the modern spinning reel. First, Aluminium, this is one of the most commonly used materials. It is easily machined, relatively corrosion resistant, extremely rigid and very light. But in recent times has become expensive. Magnesium, often used in the development of high end reels, it is incredibly light and strong. But it has low corrosion resistance, very expensive, requires extremely high technology to achieve corrosion resistance and precision at the same time. And last universal plastic or FRP (fibre resin plastic) – resin reinforced with fibre glass – this can never compare to other materials for lightness and strength but it is fully corrosion resistant and economical.

This is where “Zaion” steps in; many manufacturers creatively use each different material depending on the characteristics that are required to produce reel bodies. The new “Zaion” material replaces glass fibres with carbon fibres to create an extremely rigid, strong material. The material is first “cast” then machined to create a body that exhibits the same precision and strength compared to that of magnesium or an aluminium body. Yet it is the same weight as magnesium but fully corrosion resistant.

The new Luvias spinning reels using “Zaion and Real Four” technology delivers enhanced performance almost equal to Daiwa’s flag ship models. This highly precision machined body, is equivalent to Daiwa’s famous “Air Metal” technology, it is not only light and tough but shows superior performance far beyond any other reel material available today.

Daiwa’s Real Four design reels set the standard for the future of spinning reels. The engineering precision is flawless. Just one turn of the handle reveals the effortless, fluid motion of 7 bearings working together with Digigear II for optimum meshing of speed, power and durability. The sound of the oscillation is not just quiet its non-existent, with a fully dampened gear and drive to eliminate unnecessary noise and vibration. Daiwa’s levelwind system lays line evenly in a cross wrapped pattern to prevent dig-in under pressure and eliminates casting loops, while the sealed drag stays dry as water and drains quickly and easily from other parts of the reel. A true legend, with its computer designed “Zaion” body, body cover and rotor, super strong, yet ultra-lightweight Air Bail, ABS Air Spool with cut-proof, titanium nitride lip and lifetime bail spring, its no wonder that Luvias is the future of the modern spinning reel.
  • Digitally designed Digigear II
  • Silent oscillation II
  • Twistbuster II
  • Cross wrap
  • Machine-cut high accuracy “Zaion” body and rotor
  • 7 stainless steel ball bearings inc. 4 Corrosion resistant CRBB ball bearings
  • Superfine Dura-aluminium machined main shaft
  • Machine cut engine plate
  • Rotor brake
  • Hyper Tournament Drag
  • Air Spool – an engineered resin, metal plated hybrid spool with titanium coated lip
  • Washable design
  • Ultra light rubber coated cork handles inc 2 ball bearings
  • Machined aluminium handle
  • All saltwater friendly

Met a smart Fisho!

After last week outing at LPR, i decided to visit LSR this time ard. Manage to get up early and promptly wake my dear up for breakfast and quickly set off. Hmm... Not much fishos this Monday morning. Water was rather choppy so i test out this new ultra small fly setup i let it float ard the banks and after 10 mins, got something at the end of the line. I quickly crank in cos like no fight at all but then BAM! Alot of splashes ard the bank! Something hit my 'Live' lure! LOL!!!

I tug hard and freed the poor fella from becoming breakfast. See the scars? Think kena whack by a toman. Released the little fella near a spot beside its frens. LOL! Dunno what fish is this though until i met this smart fisho who told me it's an eartheater. And he caught 2 BIG PEACOCK BASS!

The big one think 2kg!!! The smaller one think 1.5kg!!! Congrats!!!
Nice to see CNR anglers like this Fisho ard! Glad to get some pointers from him and see him in action hahaha. Learn from the pro lah. What a memorable trip and though no peacock bass is landed by me 2day i'm still happy cos i managed to hook one biggie but i too kan cheong pull it up too fast out of water and it leaped and shook and the hook fly back!!! LOLOLOL

Lucky 1st Day of the Month Again!

Got an unexpected day off so i decided to go to LPR and hone my fishing skills. Pretty bad bites lately, had zero takes with lures but got a few misses with my float & fly setup. :( Anyway, went early morning, left with my darling after a hearty breakfast. LPR was getting quiet these days during the weekday mornings. Nobody is there fishing so i crossed my fingers and tried out a couple of tricks and tips after this month revision on my targeted species. And it paid off. :)
Hook on the tip! Great fighting action!
Not too fat, seems like LPR is starving these fellas :)

Caught this energetic 1/2 pounder Peacock near the neh neh rocks, and what a fight it gave me! The hook is nicely set on the tip of the mouth so it got into alot of action trying to release itself! Did a nice tarpon jump here, shaking its head trying to shook off the hook and valiantly dart left and right! Woohoo! Hot Baby! Finally, subdued it with a series of turns and manage to grab it up for a little photo session... kekekeke!!!

After that a group of young anglers came armed with float & fly and casts around my spot so i rested up. After they moved i targeted yet another set of rocks and WOAH! This time i juvenile toman shot out between the rocks and greedily snatched my lure. What a hungry pig! LOL!!! Caught in no time at all. More surprised by the manner of take than the fight though.

Very skinny!!! LOL!!! LPR INDEED STARVING!!!

After that i go recce around LSR, my next targeted site. Please wait for more good news and have fun!!! All fished are CNR. Please conserve for our next generation ya! :)

Jip Puun Heurr Hotspot!!!

Hey Fishos! Been checking out suitable freshwater fishing spots near my workplace at Woodlands. So far Kranji Reservoir hasn't been too kind to me. Lots of baiters there targeting groupers A.K.A soon hock or soon fu. Anyway the area is quiet in the mornings. Not much lurers there so kind of boring cos cannot learn from the pros... Haiz :( But it might be a blessing in disguise cos i found a TILAPIA HOTSPOT! :) Caught one while using a small crankbait. But haiz, that place very easy kena fine de. That's why the place is so full of big fish! Hahaha! Fish is CNR cos honestly i dunno how to cook it! :P

Slightly larger than my palm! FOOD!

Toman juvenile packs feeding!!!

Been into alot of studying and learning about our fishy friends after a long while of zero bites after some unfruitful trips at LPR & LSR. Landing a big fish really is about the hardwork u put in and how much time u invested in honing your skills. Eg. Tying of knots, line actions, lure selections, lure colors, lure retrieve techniques and most important locations. LOL!!! So recce the area ard LPR and came across this interesting sight.

Easily 50 in a group. maybe 5 to 7 inches long. WOW!

Numerous splashes are generated by these tomans. And they came in huge groups. Easily 50 in a group! :) Got 2 or 3 groups. Didn't saw any mama or papa Tomans though. Seems like these young fellas are scraping the algae off the banks to feed. Hmm... Vegetarians? LOL

Same spot saw a watermelon resting in the water. Doesn't move much and surface for air once in a while. Seems injured and so close to the bank i can almost grab it. Kekekeke!!! Tried casting ard the spot but no bites. Though of foul hooking it but... Oh well, don't wanna disturb it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!!

Just wanna try out my new 8lb Spiderwire braided line i bought earlier that day... Been using that wind knotty mono line all these while and Boy! What a great casting distance even for my light tackle luring setup... Didn't expect to land this beauty on the very evening of the Brand New Year! It sure gave me a great minute fight... The take was totally unexpected! Firm and solid bashing around by this beauty. I have to keep my rod firmly up cos i really don't want this baby to go! kekekeke!!! For a period it just splashes around and i thought its a goner. I quicky grabbed my lip grapple and hooked it up. Hehe! Thanks Zack for my line tieup! :)

Nice weight on my grip! A COOL 5 Pounder!!! :)
Unhook the lip part and OMG! Another hook up on the flap!
Subdued this BEAUTY in less than a min!
Close up on the BIG MOUTH!
Hooray! My first Biggie Peacock Bass caught on a brand New Year! Fish is CNR for my next visit liao... Hopefully this lucky catch will usher in good luck this year! kekekeke!!! And so my fishing wish for this year is... "NO PUB SIGNS FOR NO FISHING LAH!!!" :)
